Purification Ritual; Hikime-no-gi Performance

June 30, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 10:00 am

Free

The Hikime no Gi is an important ritual of the Ogasawara-ryu school, in which those who have been trained and chosen by it use their skills in front of the shrine and in front of many people, relying on the virtues of the bow and arrow to purify the world. It is performed as a Shinto ritual. Therefore, in this ceremony, there are many actions that show the heart to pray for world peace, national peace, family prosperity, etc. In that sense, it is held at the beginning of the year and the beginning of Shinto rituals. This ritual is performed at many major shrines; such as Omiya Hachimangu, Sumiyoshi Taisha, Kasuga Shrine, Shimogamo Shrine, Atsuta jingu.

This year, for the first time in Hawaii, 32nd Generation of Ogasawara Family, Kiyomoto Ogasawara, will perform this purification ritual for the people of Hawaii. Admission is free. Parking is limited.
