“Emotive Brain” Conversation with a Brain Scientist: Dr. Kenichiro Mogi

Dr. Mogi has been searching for the relationship between the mind and the brain, focusing on “Qualia”; the subjective sensory qualities – like the redness of red. During his first talk in Hawaii, he will discuss his last enigma in the Mind-brain problem. The discussion will be in English (Part I) and also in Japanese (Part II).

Kenichiro Mogi is a Japanese brain scientist and Senior Researcher at Sony Computer Science Laboratories, and a visiting professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology and Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He was born in 1962 in Tokyo and graduated from Tokyo University with a degree in science and law. Dr. Mogi earned a PhD with his thesis “Mathematical Model of Muscle Contraction.”After his post-doctoral study at Cambridge University, he won the prestigious Kobayashi Hideo Prize for his book, “Brain and Imagination” in 2005, and also was awarded the Kuwabara Takeo Prize for the book, “Now, From Here to Everywhere”. He has published about 20 books, including one in English. He has also served as a commentator with NHK’s “The Professional” since 2006.
